The problem is that of distance. But with advanced communication technologies, even that isn''t a cause for concern any more and there is no hindrance in the functioning of the departments.

How do you think they can help the department to which they are appointed when they rarely attend office?

They are appointed for taking policy decisions and issuing directives. A chairman is not supposed to sit in the office the whole day. So if one wishes to, he can manage without a visit also.

Don''t you think a few visits should be fixed for peolple on such posts?

The number of visits is to be fixed by them. We can''t do that. They do need to give the department the best they can and make it function well.

Why do these departments need star personalities to head them?

Star personalities give the departments an identity and add glamour.

How do you think Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia will help the Sangeet Natak Akademi and how do you explain the appointment of Nadira Babbar to Bhartendu Natya Academy?

Pt Hari Prasad is a frequent visitor to UP as he has his roots here and performs in the state quite often. So each time, he can visit his office too. As for Nadira Babbar, during her very first meeting she gave useful suggestions and directions. She wants to take some students of BNA in her theatre group also.
kanpur.times@timesgroup.com
